Dr. Denenberg's Hero's Quilt

I thought that this was a great idea that would be relatively easy to put together.  Also, it could be changed easily throughout the year as students studied other American heroes.  I think that reading biographies of important people in America's history could easily lend itself to a response to literature which could also become part of the quilt.

  1. Karen,

I LOVE the idea of connecting the biographies to Response to Literature! I am always looking up ways to make that essay more fun, and incorporating history would be a great way to do that.

I agree that the quilt is such an amazing tool. I personally loved the idea of the bathroom passes. He's right, kids will definitely read them, learn them, and want more to read about. I told my grade level that this would be a fun way to "sneak" in different historical people or events into little parts of the day.

I hope the year is going really well for you!!

  2. I support the quilt idea for elementary teachers. I beleive the long-term memory could be affective by younger students seeing the quilt on a daily-bases. It could be like their daily news about positive Ameircan individuals.
